My favorite spots in Rock Hill are…
I enjoy some of the local restaurants in the area, such as Ebenezer Grill, which offers more traditional Southern meals, or Amelie's, located in downtown Rock Hill. The entire downtown area is quite pleasant, and I also enjoy spending time at the public library there if I'm looking for a change of scenery while studying. Winthrop Lake is also a personal favorite of mine, located near Winthrop Coliseum.
My most memorable Winthrop experience…
One of my favorite college memories so far was staying up super late with a few classmates before a big exam in one of my cell biology classes. We were all stressed, but we ended up quizzing each other, and laughing over silly mistakes. By the end of the night (or cracking of the dawn), we were very exhausted, but it reminded me that some of the best parts of college aren't just the classes, they are the social moments you get to spend with your peers.
I chose Winthrop because…
Winthrop's location, offerings, and affordability made it quickly stand out in my college search. It was in-state, and closer to home than other options, which I appreciated, as I had little interest in dorm life. As a STEM major, I was highly impressed with the wide variety of classes and faculty research opportunities (i.e. biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, ichthyology, botany, microbiology, etc). I was also impressed with the Eagle STEM program, which offered further benefits for STEM students looking to apply. Overall, Winthrop University built a fantastic case for itself.
My favorite Winthrop tradition...
My favorite Winthrop tradition is undoubtedly The Blue Line. It felt very personal for such a large event, and it made me feel connected to Winthrop before I even started classes during my first semester. It filled me with a sense of college pride, and it was a great way to introduce myself to faculty.
