My favorite spots in Rock Hill are…
Rock Hill has numerous amounts of sights to see everywhere. Rock Hill has a beautiful downtown area that has a lot to do. A very popular place students find themselves visiting often is Glencairn Garden, a beautiful park with nice scenery everywhere. This is a perfect place to go with friends, take pictures, picnic, etc. Alongside Rock Hill's parks, there are a lot of great spots to eat as well. My friends and I enjoy a restaurant called Hobo's that sells great burgers and fries among many other menu options. Hobo's is walking distance from campus, so you don't have to travel far!
I chose Winthrop because…
I chose Winthrop because from the moment I got onto campus I could feel that Winthrop offered a great balance of a large tight knit community alongside a strong academic structure with great professors and staff to give students the greatest experience possible in their time here at Winthrop. I immediately felt a sense of community coming to Winthrop during orientation, the Orientation Leaders always made incoming freshman feel welcome, excited, and immersed into the community for the next four years! Winthrop has the advantage of being a "smaller" university compared to a lot of other schools, so you don't have to fight as hard to seek help or guidance from your fellow professors and staff, which ultimately led me to my decision to commit to Winthrop.
My favorite Winthrop tradition...
A tradition I find interestingly unique is Winthrop's incorporation of cultural events for all of its students. I find that students really enjoy going to cultural events. These events come in various shapes and sizes, and none are just alike. All cultural events are unique in their own ways, and it's a great way of giving students the incentive to get out and congregate amongst their peers but also the credit for attending these events goes towards your graduations requirements as well. I find this to be a great way to ensure students get involved, because you never know what doors can open just by getting out and participating in your community.
My most memorable Winthrop experience…
I would have to say my most memorable Winthrop experience is getting to shoot our basketball team's media day this past school year. As a member of Winthrop's creative content team, we're responsible for all the behind the scenes that make the athletes look good on social media and ESPN. Being a freshman, and having just joined the media team, it was a big step to take working on a professional media day for a collegiate basketball team, but ultimately, I persevered, and it was one of the most enjoyable things I can remember doing my freshman year!
